GOP Lawmaker Run Off The Road In Alleged Act Of Antisemitic Hate

An Ohio man was hauled into court Friday after a shocking incident in which Rep. Max Miller, a Republican from the Buckeye State, says he was run off the road in what he is calling an anti-Semitic attack that endangered both his life and the lives of his family.

According to Miller, the driver of the other vehicle not only forced him off the road but also shouted vile anti-Semitic slurs during the encounter and waved a Palestinian flag before speeding away.

The suspect, Feras S. Hamdan, now faces a misdemeanor charge of menacing with an ethnic intimidation enhancement because of Miller’s Jewish faith, WJW-TV reported.

At Hamdan’s arraignment Friday, Rocky River Municipal Court Judge Joseph Burke made it clear just how seriously he was taking the crime, setting bond at 500 thousand dollars, well above the 25 thousand dollar personal recognizance bond recommended by the prosecutor.

“Threats against elected officials, I’m just not gonna tolerate that,” Burke said in court, referencing the recent brutal murders of a Minnesota state legislator and her husband.

“These are real serious allegations here. It’s not gonna happen on my watch. Someone’s gonna get harmed,” the judge said.

If and when Hamdan makes bail, the court ordered that he will be placed on GPS monitoring and must surrender his passport.

Miller wasted no time taking to social media to alert the public about what had happened.

“The deranged hatred in this country has gotten out of control. Today I was run off the road in Rocky River, and the life of me and my family was threatened by a person who proceeded to show a Palestinian flag before taking off. I have filed a police report with Capitol Police and the local police department. We know who this person is and he will face justice,” Miller wrote in a post on X.

“As a Marine, a proud Jewish American and a staunch defender of Israel, I will not hide in the face of this blatant antisemitic violence,” Miller added.

In a follow-up video, Miller laid out exactly what had happened and called on Americans to reject violence.

“If you have an issue with a legislator, your city councilman, your mayor, anyone like that, the appropriate thing to do is to reach out to them for a phone call to set up a meeting at one of our district offices,” Miller said.

“What is not OK is to assault anyone, whether you’re a member of Congress or anybody else within our district, while you are driving to work,” he added.

Miller described the suspect as an “unhinged, deranged man” who became enraged during the incident.

He explained that the suspect had grown angry “when he could not get my attention, to show me a Palestinian flag, not to mention ‘death to Israel, death to me,’ that he wanted to kill me and my family,” Miller said.

Miller ended his video with a message of resolve and defiance.

“We will not hide, and I will continue to fight against anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and all other forms of hate,” he said. “You have an issue? Take it to our office. You want to run me off the road? That’s a different story.”

The US Capitol Police, who assisted in the investigation, praised the quick arrest of the suspect.

“This arrest is a prime example of the USCP’s stance towards threats against our elected officials. We will continue to have a zero tolerance policy,” the Capitol Police said in a statement.
