Trump Picks Beloved Fox Host For New Role

President Donald Trump announced that he was nominating State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce to serve as deputy representative to the United Nations.

“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador,” Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social, adding that Bruce has been “serving with distinction” in her current role as State Department spokesperson and “will represent our Country brilliantly at the United Nations.”

Bruce has been one of the most visible figures at the State Department in the first six months of Trump’s second term, leading regular news briefings on the administration’s foreign policies.

Her nomination comes at a time when the United States lacks a permanent leader at the United Nations. Mike Waltz, who briefly served as Trump’s national security adviser, had his confirmation hearing to be the UN ambassador last month, but the full Senate has yet to vote on his nomination.

In January, Trump nominated Bruce, a former Fox News contributor, for the State Department position, adding to his long list of conservative network appointments.

Bruce was a long-time Democrat and self-described liberal activist before making a hard turn toward conservative politics and finally endorsing Trump’s MAGA agenda.

The job of deputy representative to the United Nations has been confirmed by the Senate, thus the former spokeswoman will face examination from parliamentarians.

If approved, Bruce would take on the post at a time when the Trump administration’s policy initiatives, particularly its staunch backing for Israel in the face of mounting worldwide condemnation over its Gaza offensive, have strained relations with old allies.

Bruce made headlines last week when she was asked on Fox News about the president’s meeting scheduled this week with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Below is a transcript of the exchange:

FAULKNER: “President Trump has taken a hard line with Russia. He’s been working to broker peace with Ukraine, but it’s growing — he is growing frustrated with President Vladimir Putin.”

Trump: “I’m not so interested in talking anymore. He’s — he talks, we have such a nice conversation, such respectful and nice conversations. And then people die the following night in a — with a missile going into a town. Russia could be such, so rich right now. Instead, they spend all their money on war. They spend everything on war and killing people, and it doesn’t make sense to me.”

FAULKNER: “Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev responded: ‘Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step toward war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country. Don’t go down the Sleepy Joe road.’ That’s what he wrote. Tammy Bruce, State Department spokesperson now is live with us from Washington, D.C. Good to see you. Look, talk to me about those words in judgment. I’m curious to get the reaction from the State Department.”

Bruce: “Well, obviously, we know where President Trump stands. He’s been very patient. He’s made a commitment to diplomacy. We’ve seen that over and over again. And he’s transparent when it comes to his thoughts in the moment, as we’ve seen. He’s not happy. He’s not been happy with Putin for quite some time. He’s made it clear what the problem is, and we’ve got a lot of tools in our tool chest, certainly the president does. I think that what President Trump isn’t bothered by is bluster or posts on a social media account. This is serious business. There’s carnage. Innocent people are dying every day, and clearly, I think Russia understands that when President Trump says something, he’s serious and they need to take him seriously.”
