We all have a soft spot for animals, especially when we see them in distress. And it’s hard not to feel what they feel, especially when it comes to dogs stuck at the pound for a long time.
Recently, a photo of a 3-year-old shelter dog went viral, and it broke our hearts. This poor dog, named Rocky, had been rejected for adoption multiple times, and it had taken a toll on him.
Rocky was under the care of the Lollipop Farm, Humane Society of Greater Rochester. His family had been evicted from their home and could no longer care for him, so he had been at the shelter since October 2022.
Despite being a wonderful dog, Rocky was adopted out two times, only to be returned within the two-week adoption trial both times. Lindsay Brewer, the shelter’s communication specialist, explained that Rocky would thrive in a certain type of home, which might be more challenging to find.
As a result, Rocky became disheartened and you can see it in his eyes. He sits alone in his kennel, head hanging low, feeling devastated. It’s a heart-wrenching sight that speaks to the difficulties dogs face when living in shelters.
Let’s all hope and pray that Rocky finds the loving home he so desperately deserves. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these animals and show them the compassion that they truly deserve.
